Yard Buddy asks for as little as it can. You can use it without signing in. If you do sign in, we keep one thing about you: the account number Apple or Google gives us, and the email address they share, so your subscription follows you to a new phone. Everything else is below.
Signing in is optional. Tap Not now and the app works the same. If you choose Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google, we receive an account number from Apple or Google and the email address they share with us. With Apple you can choose to hide your real address. We never see your password.
We use these for one thing: to link your subscription to you, so it works on your other devices and on a new phone. We do not use them for marketing and we do not email you.
In the app, open the course list, tap Account, then Delete account. You confirm with Apple or Google once more, and we delete your sign-in and purchase history from our subscription records. If you signed in with Apple, we also end the app's access to your Apple ID. You can also ask us by email.
Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription. Only Apple or Google can do that — see Terms.
Apple or Google handles the payment. We never receive your card number or billing address.
To check whether a subscription is active on each of your devices, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription service. RevenueCat receives the purchase receipt from Apple or Google, your account number and email if you signed in (an anonymous number if you did not), and basic details such as the app version and country. RevenueCat handles it on our behalf under its privacy policy.
The app reads your GPS location to measure the distance from where you stand to the green. We never receive, store, or share your exact location. (The satellite picture of the hole is fetched from Google. See Maps below.)
The one exception: if you send a problem report, the spot you were standing on is included so we can check the hole you were playing. That happens only when you tap Send.
You can deny location access and still browse courses — you simply won't get live yardages.
The satellite picture is provided by Google Maps. To show it, your phone asks Google for pictures of the area on the screen. Google receives what any map request carries, such as your IP address and the area being viewed. The Google Maps software may also collect device identifiers, diagnostics and how the map is used. Google handles that information under the Google Privacy Policy. We do not receive it. Without a signal the picture does not load. Yardages still work.
Course maps are downloaded to your phone so the app works without a signal. Downloading a course tells us nothing about who you are; the files are public and identical for everyone.
When you open a course, the app tells us which course it was, whether it is one we only have as a map, and whether it came from the iPhone app, the Android app, the watch or the website. It sends this at most once per course every eight hours. It carries no account, no name, no device number and no location. We count these notes to learn which courses are used, so we know which maps to improve first, and we keep them for about a year.
If you tap Report a problem, we receive what you chose, anything you typed, and the course, hole, and yardages on your screen at that moment, plus the spot you were standing on and your device type. We use it to fix the course and nothing else. A report is not tied to your account. Nothing is sent unless you tap Send.
If you search for a course and nothing matches, the app sends us what you typed, along with a rough area (rounded to about six miles) so we know which region to look in. That is how we decide which courses to add next. We do not send your exact location, and we do not keep a history of your searches.
The same goes for places we do not cover well yet. If you open the app and there is no course with full yardages within about ten miles, or you open a course we only have as a map while you are standing at it, the app sends us that rough area once, so we can build the courses there first. It is never your exact spot, and it is not tied to you.
When you open a course we only have as a map, the app tells us which course, so we can map it next. With each of these notes we also see what any website sees: whether it came from an iPhone, an Android phone or a computer, your language setting, and the country your internet connection is in (not in Korea). None of it identifies you.
Yard Buddy is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
If this policy ever changes, the date above changes with it. If a future version of the app collects anything more, we will say so here before it ships.
